As a board member, you will provide leadership and drive the path of AzAEYC. Serving on the AzAEYC Governing Board is an extraordinary opportunity for early childhood professionals who are passionate about quality and accessible early care and education for Arizona’s youngest learners, deeply committed to the values of equity and collaboration, and skilled (or up-and-coming) leaders.

What does an AzAEYC board member do?

  • Actively attend 12 board meetings per year (one time per month on the second Monday of each month) virtually and with some in-person meetings.

  • Contribute service including, but not limited to, attending in-person and/or virtual meetings, board retreats, community events, email correspondence, committees and workgroups, and networking in the community.

  • Maintain financial accountability for the organization by approving financial statements. Exercise due diligence to oversee the organization is well managed and its finances remain sound.

  • Share your expertise to ensure all of Arizona’s children, families and early childhood professionals thrive.

  • Plan and support the early childhood profession through various events. Board Members contribute in-kind hours by volunteering at events or sponsoring items.

What are we looking for?

As we build our organizational capacity, we are seeking board members with the experience and qualities to contribute to our growth. We are looking for diverse backgrounds, individual strengths and capabilities, in addition to individuals who have:

  • A strong belief that Arizona’s children and families deserve quality, accessible early care and education.

  • A willingness to be a vocal advocate for the early childhood profession and AzAEYC.

  • An interest in contributing or developing early childhood leadership skills to the growth of AzAEYC.

  • Relationships or networks with parents of young children, early childhood educators, and/or community partners.

  • A passion for the field and making a difference.

What will you need to apply?

To apply, please complete the nomination application. It should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You will also be asked to submit additional application materials including a resume/curriculum vitae, Arizona fingerprint clearance card, and professional headshot photo. Furthermore, responses to a personal statement are required and will be used in the ballot if you are selected for the slate. You may find it helpful to have your personal statement prepared and available before you begin the application.

Write a personal statement that showcases your passion for early childhood education and your alignment with AzAEYC’s mission, vision, core beliefs, and values.

Please address the following in no more than 4-5 paragraphs:

  1. Professional Background: Highlight your experience in early childhood education, leadership roles, and work with children, families, and communities.

  2. Commitment to AzAEYC: Explain how your values align with AzAEYC’s mission of advancing high-quality, equitable early childhood education.

  3. Board Contributions: Describe the skills, strengths, and perspectives you’ll bring to the board and how you’ll support AzAEYC’s initiatives.

  4. Vision for the Future: Share your vision for early childhood education in Arizona and how you hope to address current challenges through this role.

What board positions are available?

Seven (7) board positions are available for 2-year terms starting 1/1/2025 and ending 12/31/2026:

  1. Vice President of Development
  2. Vice President of Membership and Communication
  3. Secretary
  4. Member at Large
  5. Member at Large Student Representative
  6. Chapter Chair Northern Arizona 
  7. Chapter Chair Pinal/Gila

Four (4) board positions are available for a 1-year term starting 1/1/2025 and ending 12/31/2025:

  1. President-Elect (then President 1/1/26-12/31/27)
  2. Member at Large Higher Education Representative
  3. Chapter Chair Maricopa
  4. Chapter Chair Yuma

Timeline 

  • Applications will be accepted through Tuesday, November 19, 2024.

  • The Nominations Committee will conduct virtual interviews during and after the application deadline until December 6, 2024.

  • The slate of candidates will be sent to active AzAEYC members to vote in December 2024. Voting typically closes by mid-December.

  • Candidates are informed of the results at the end of the voting period in December upon successful board approval.

  • Board service begins January 1, 2025 and includes onboarding and mentorship support.
